Structural Steel Design Award winners announced for 2019: Awards for efficiency, cost effectiveness, aesthetics, sustainability and innovation
On Wednesday 1 October 2019, the 51st Structural Steel Design Awards took place at the LSO St Luke’s in London. The awards, jointly sponsored by the British Constructional Steelwork Association and Trimble Solutions (UK) Ltd, celebrated the excellence of the UK steel construction industry.
The competition was open to completed steel based structures in the UK or overseas that had been built by UK or Irish steelwork contractors. Many entries were received and a shortlist of 20 was created. The judges deliberated at length over these entries – all scoring highly in terms of innovation, sustainability, efficiency, cost-effectiveness and aesthetics. Out of the 20 shortlisted entries, the final five winners announced at the Awards were:
Commendations were also awarded to six projects: Battersea Arts Centre, Chiswick Park Footbridge, Fen Court, London, Ingenuity House, Birmingham, Neuron Pod, London and Royal Academy of Music, London.
Merits were awarded to four further projects: G W Annenberg Performing Arts Centre, Greatham Creek Seal Hide, Middlesbrough, Telford Central Footbridges and The Macallan Distillery.
And this year’s ‘Project of the Year’ award, went to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, New Stadium.
Team members from Joseph Ash Galvanizing were at the Awards to celebrate with the shortlisted entrants and winners. As ever, it was a great night!
